Very nice painting of shepherd and another figure with flock and collie dog by his feet. There is a church in the distance, with very skillfully painted sky, typical of Hayes style and technique, making this a very attractive piece
Claude Hayes was an artist born in Dublin in 1852 to Edwin Hayes. He first practiced as a portrait painter, but later on became a landscape painter first in oil and then watercolours. He was a prominent and highly regarded Dublin landscape & portrait painter. He ran away to sea, but Later studied at Heatherleys & Royal Academy School & at Antwerp under Verlat. Exhibited extensively.He exhibited extensively including at the 'Royal Academy' as well as 'Grosvenor Gallery', 'New Watercolour Society', 'New Gallery, and 'Suffolk Street'. He died in 1922.
