A special small run of a signed Limited Edition Print of the Ashby de la Zouch September Statutes Fair is now available
Showing people enjoying the fair in the late 1930s. Every year in September, Market Street is closed so that the Statutes Fair can be held. Here we see that people have come from far and wide to enjoy the fun.
This print is full of character and wit - the view looking west from the top of Ashbys Market Street down towards the Island and on up towards the Kilwardby Street area.
Di researched the 1930’s for the rides, fashion and street layout before drawing it up. Photographs of the fair at that time are rare but Ashby Museum had just a couple as helpful reference. You will note steam rising from the rides. Steam was used as the power to drive various fairground rides from the late 1800s. Pat Collins funfairs have been going 150 years
Di enjoys imagining herself and others in historical situations. She has a series of 26 cartoons on display in Ashby Museum about the history of Ashby from the Iron Age to the present day.
Full of activity and vibrancy this print really captures the excitement of the famous Ashby Statutes which in 2019 is celebrating its 800 years of the statutes fair in Ashby de la Zouch. This print will be presented in a white mount
