Jerzy Faczynski was born in Poland in 1917 to an artist family. He studied art and architecture in Warsaw, Liverpool and London. He came over to England in July 1940, as a member of the Polish Air Force and served in the Airfield Construction Squadron. His work was equally divided between art and architecture. He was associated with the architectural work of over 25 churches, including St. Mary's in Leyland. During his lifetime he exhibited his artwork throughout the British Isles and as far afield as Canada. He was known as the Polish Picasso.
